NAME: AKiko Yosano (first name/last name)
CANON: Bungou Stray Dogs
CANON POINT: Ch. 69
AGE: 25
BACKGROUND: Here
PERSONALITY: Yosano is the epitome of a strong and independent woman. From a young age she's always been shown to be loud, opinionated, and stubborn-- she loudly complains that the soldiers she's treating are being babies or dramatic, yells at them to get back to work, and is generally a little tyrant in the infirmary until things start getting progressively worse for everyone involved in the war. Despite her strong will, even she is broken by repeatedly seeing death and being forced to heal the worst cases under Mori's care, often under duress. She tries to refuse to heal, realizing that with her ability the war might never end since the soldiers can just keep being dropped onto the battlefield as quickly as she can heal them, but Mori makes it quite clear that she has no choice in the matter if she doesn't want people to die. While she becomes friends with one of the soldiers, Mori shoots him and orders Yosano to heal him or he'll die, forcing her hand.
The other soldiers also repeatedly began to resent her and attack her, turning on her from the friendly relationship she'd had with them beforehand. This caused her a lot of stress and heart-breaking, slowly wearing her mental health down. She lost much of her vibrancy, becoming a shell of her former self, but she held onto the idea that she must be doing something right, always thinking on the kind soldier friend she'd made. The final straw came when he killed himself, leaving a note for Yosano saying she was too "correct." This causes her to crack--she says she doesn't remember anything afterwards, just that the grief and despair became to much. She apparently tried to blow up the ship they were on and was therefore sent off and detained in a mental facility for some time. Ever since then she has absolutely despised Mori, becoming enraged when it's implied that Mori made a deal with Fukuzawa to have her in exchange for the Port Mafia's help. She lashes out and grabs at Mori, refusing to believe it-- But, she's also willing to go along with it if it means saving the others. She's never quite been able to forgive herself for her participation in the war and what she did, the death of that solider weighing heavily on her heart for all those years.
Despite spending several years mentally broken, her strong will and determination to do good reared its head when she was saved from Mori's clutches again by Ranpo and Fukuzawa. It was Ranpo's peptalk that gave her her emotions back, and from there she began to claw her way out of her funk. Because of her experiences, she's also incredibly passionate about the sanctity of life and death and views people who take death lightly or as a game to be reprehensible. She can be incredibly violent and is quick to physically retaliate against those that would make death or life seem meaningless or frivolous-- but also quick to administer justice to those who are disrespectful and rude to her, like when she breaks a man's fingers for touching her without permission and for implying she's a prostitute.
In general, however, Yosano is shown to be dignified and composed, remaining calm and level-headed in a crisis. Her quick thinking and ability to strategize on the fly isn't really a stand-out in an agency full of people who are skilled at this, but Yosano's healing ability means she can afford to be a little more reckless with it, since unless something instantly kills her, she can heal from any fatal injury.
She definitely has a sadistic side to her though, seeming to take great pleasure whenever someone in the agency becomes injured, since it means she has to mortally wound them first. As a result, though, it has made the agency members more careful in how they deal with their missions, as no one wants to be subject to her care. Outside of that, though, Yosano is actually a very capable doctor and able to give medical treatment without the use of her ability.
In her free time, however, Yosano is shown to be a rather normal woman. She enjoys drinking, gambling and games with the other agents, and especially clothes shopping, a past time that apparently has everyone fleeing the office when she gets it in her head to do some, since she usually drags some unlucky person along to carry all her bags. But she cares for each of the agency members deeply and will do anything in her power to help and protect them.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Yosano has a healing ability called Thou Shalt Not Die. She can heal any and all injuries completely back to good-as-new condition, up to and including bringing back limbs. This includes herself--if she isn't instantly killed from an attack, she can revive and bring herself back instantly. However, in order to use it the person has to be fatally injured and near death--so to heal small wounds, she has to half-kill the person first.
This does not heal them of psychological wounds or mental trauma of the near-death experiences they've had.
